Volunteering

The Group is constantly in need of parents to assist with each of the sections and with the general running of the group. There are many roles within the Group where you can offer help, some are uniformed (or not) and are hands-on ‘on-the-night’, others support uniformed leaders or assist with the administration and the general running of the Group. Whatever skills you have to offer, and whatever level of commitment, regular or occasional, you are able to offer – we need your help! You might even enjoy it!

Please contact us via the Contact Form or just come down and have a chat with our Group Scout Leader on Friday night. For even more information about volunteering, see the Joining The Adventure and the Getting Involved sections of the Scouting website.

We also have the following specific volunteer roles to fill:

After many years service to 3rd Brampton, Peter Hall has decided to step down as Group Secretary. This is a key voluntary role in the Group Executive Committee and we desperately need to find a replacement.

The role of the Group Secretary is to:

  • provide sound administrative support to the Group
  • make available to members of the Group information received into the Group
  • keep in contact with the District Secretary
  • keep such records as the Group Scout Leader and Group Chairman require.

The key duties of the Group Secretary are to:

  • act as Secretary to the Group Scout Council& Group Executive Committee.
  • work closely with and support the Group Chairman.
  • provide sound administration support for the Group Scout Leader
  • Ensure completion of the Group annual census return.
  • Maintain records required for the effective administration of the Scout Group.
  • Ensure safe custody of legal and official documents.

Although not a uniformed role, as a member of the Group Executive Committee, the post holder is required to complete an on-line introductory training module.

If you would like any more information about this position, please contact Mike Hooper (Group Scout Leader) or John Stewart (Group Chairman).

The group is in need of an Admin Volunteer to help out on Friday nights in the main foyer, collecting subs and completed permission forms, giving out information, etc. Currently this role is performed by our GSL.

Having an admin volunteer would free up our GSL to perform the other 101 things that need resolving on Friday nights across all three sections. If you may be able to help with this role, please contact the Group Scout Leader (see above).

The Executive Committee is made up of parent representatives from each of the sections. It’s role is to assist with the running and decision making of the Group, and ensure that it meets its legal obligations as a charitable organisation.  The committee meets 6 times a year, usually on a Thursday at 19:45, for about 1½ hours.  We currently require parent representatives for all three sections of the Group. If you may be able to help with this role, please contact the Group Scout Leader (see above).
The Group would welcome any support from parents in whatever capacity. To find out more please see the Joining The Adventure and the Getting Involved sections of the Scouting website. Please do not underestimate the value of your potential contribution to the group and the positive life long impact that Scouting has on our young people across the sections. If you have an interest in volunteering, please speak to our Group Scout Leader or any of the section leaders on Friday night or contact us via the website (see above).
