Scout Programme

The Scout Section is for young people (boys and girls) aged between 10½ and 14 years. Scouts are easily distinguished by their dark green shirts. Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme, and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements, there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges to work towards.

Being outdoors is important, and half the programme is given over to taking part in both traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking, as well as the wide range of adventurous activities including anything from abseiling to yachting.

The 3rd Brampton Scout programme has been designed to work towards badges during the winter months (primarily indoors) and then as the evenings get lighter and warmer, this emphasis switches to outdoor activities.

The Scout Section follows a programme of activities each term. The latest Scout Programme is available below. Additional activity information and updates will be added to the programme as soon as they become available, so please check back here regularly. Information about this Friday’s activities can also be found on the ‘Friday’ post on the home page.

Parent Rota

Due to the number of Scouts we now have in the group, Ryan (out Scout leader) needs help from parents each week. We are therefore operating a parent rota and need 2 parents to help out at each meeting.

Helping out on an evening doesn’t mean you will be running the night – the section leaders will do that. Parent helpers provide an extra pair of hands, eyes and ears to fetch/carry, join in with the fun, and to help ensure that everyone has an enjoyable evening.

If Ryan doesn’t get the help he needs, there may be a chance that an evenings programme may have to be cancelled which is the last thing any of us want.

Please email (or see Sharon on Friday night) with the dates you are able to help out on, so that we can allocate helpers to each meeting. First come, first served with dates, so if you offer to help on a date that is already filled, we will try to provide alternatives.

Subs

Subs Allocation 2016All members of all sections of the Group pay subs which contribute towards the cost of Capitation (contribution to The Scout Association paid by each Beaver/Cub/Scout), Rent (fees paid to St Thomas’ Church for the Group’s use of the church facilities), Insurance (insurance fee covering loss and theft of equipment owned by the Group), Programme (cost associated with the delivery of the programme in each section), and costs relating to the essential repairs and renewals of existing equipment. The Group endeavours to keep these fees to a minimum, but must ensure that all outgoing expenses are met.

Subs across all sections have increased to £132 annually, effective September 2016. This can be paid termly as 3 payments of £44 by BACS/cash/cheque, or as 12 payments of £11 paid by BACS at the beginning of each calendar month (monthly payments cannot be made by cash/cheque due to the admin resources required to keep track of payments). Please pay electronically wherever possible (3rd Brampton Scout Group – Sort Code 16-16-18 – Account No. 13676668) and ensure that you add your child’s initial and surname to the payment description so that we can reconcile your payment to your child.
